As Dubai is ready to lunch it's first homemade satellite into orbit, it's a very big moment especially considering UAE is a very young nation.
I salute to UAE's visionary leadership and an awesome engineering team who made it possible. It must have been very tough as some engineers are fresh college grads.
The satellite
The satellite manufacturing journey in the UAE started in 2006 with the establishment of the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) which was encompassed later by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in 2015.
The project
The project was officially announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Ruler of Dubai, in December 2013.
KhalifaSat
Prior to KhalifaSat, Dubai has successfully launched satellites in orbit, DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2. core objective for KhalifaSat is to capture high-resolution Images from space.
It would be really helpful for government officials to have great quality pictures taken from space, that could be a game changer in terms of urban planning etc. KhalifaSat would be lunch from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd MHI Japan.
